Anish Kapoor’s work does not occupy space: it transforms it. Self-generating masses, voids that absorb light to the point of annihilation, surfaces that merge the viewer with the landscape until they dissolve—every element of his sculpture strives toward the dissolution of boundaries between the material and the immaterial, the intact and the shattered, the real and the unreal. In this surrender to matter lies an ancient form of trust: that of one who accepts being permeated by what they can neither control nor fully comprehend.
