Esther Duflo is a Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). Her research focuses on understanding the economic conditions of people in poverty, with the aim of contributing to the design and evaluation of social policies. Duflo has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, shared with Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer. Together with Banerjee, she co-authored the books Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty and Good Economics for Hard Times.
