In collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Italy
A chronicler of Spain and recent European history, Javier Cercas has crafted a literary voice that blends novel, essay, and historical memory. He approaches the conflict of identity as a literary act, challenging readers to engage with the complexities of historical legacy. As the author has stated, “literary imagination is the art of combining memories,” and Cercas succeeds in mediating and reconciling opposites. He blurs the line between truth and fiction, selecting fragments of history rooted in collective memory and reconstructing them into a fictional universe. He receives the Taobuk Award to honor the novel as a bridge between individual and history, present and memory, literature and reality.
In conversation with Antonio Spadaro, Jesuit priest, Undersecretary of the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education, and full member of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Letters of the Virtuosi at the Pantheon. Among his most recent books is Dialoghi sulla fede (Dialogues on Faith, La Nave di Teseo), a volume of conversations with film director Martin Scorsese.
Moderated by Antonio Monda, writer, director, and journalist.
During the event, the Ambassador of Spain to Italy, Miguel Fernández–Palacios, will present the award to the author.
