Roberto Saviano (Naples, September 22, 1979) is an Italian writer, journalist, and screenwriter. Raised in Caserta, he earned a degree in Philosophy from the Federico II University of Naples. In 2006, he published Gomorra (Mondadori), an investigative novel about the economic empire of the Camorra, which has been translated into 52 languages and adapted into an internationally successful film and television series. His other books include ZeroZeroZero (Feltrinelli, 2013), on the international cocaine trade; La paranza dei bambini (Feltrinelli, 2016), winner of the 2017 Strega Prize; and Bacio feroce (2017). He has contributed to La Repubblica, Corriere della Sera, and major international newspapers. Since 2006, he has lived under police protection due to threats received from the Camorra.
