IL TEATRO GRECO DI TAORMINA: UNA QUINTA SU UN MARE DI BELLEZZA.

«Chi si collochi nel punto più alto dello splendido Teatro Greco di Taormina, non potrà fare a meno di confessare che forse mai il pubblico di un teatro ha avuto innanzi a sé uno spettacolo simile. Lo sguardo abbraccia tutta la lunga schiena montuosa dell’Etna, la spiaggia fino a Catania. L’enorme vulcano fumante chiude il quadro sterminato, ma senza crudezza, perché i vapori dell’atmosfera lo fanno apparire più lontano e più grazioso che non sia nella realtà… Osservare come questo sito, in tutti i particolari interessante, sprofondava a poco a poco nelle tenebre, è stato spettacolo di una bellezza indescrivibile…». Sono queste le parole di Johann Wolfgang von Goethe nel giorno 7 Maggio 1787, quando, insieme all’amico ed incisore Kniep, visitò il Teatro Antico di Taormina.

Costruito nel III secolo a.C. e modificato dai Romani, il Teatro è più di un simbolo, è il luogo che ha raccolto le emozioni di generazioni di visitatori, spettatori, viaggiatori, poeti, artisti.
Più di duecento anni dopo Goethe, il regista Woody Allen, che nel Teatro di Taormina girò alcune scene del suo “La dea dell’amore”, in un’intervista rilasciata a Silvia Bizio ed inclusa nel libro “Il Cinema sopra Taormina”, usò queste parole: «Fu amore a prima vista, con il Teatro Antico e con Taormina (…). Un’emozione incredibile combinata a un senso di inadeguatezza di fronte a tanta bellezza, seguita da un’ansia di performance. Era tutto così suggestivo… e mi ripromisi di tornarci (…). Il Teatro di Taormina era in effetti il più bello che avessi mai visto. Ci tenevo a girare nel mezzo dell’antichità scene di un film contemporaneo, e questa era l’occasione giusta».
Il Teatro Greco offrì anche l’indimenticabile ambientazione a molte pellicole che fanno ormai parte, a pieno titolo, della storia del grande cinema internazionale: da “L’immagine meravigliosa” con Anna Maria Pierangeli, a “Intrigo a Taormina” con Ugo Tognazzi, Walter Chiari, Gino Cervi e Sylvia Koscina, da “Grande grosso e Verdone” di Carlo Verdone al già citato “La dea dell’amore” di Woody Allen.
Lo stesso Teatro fu il luogo in cui tanti divi del cinema arrivarono negli anni a ritirare le statuette d’oro della Rassegna cinematografica, i prestigiosi “David di Donatello”: sul suo palco vennero omaggiati, tra i tanti, Ingrid Bergman, Laurence Olivier, Federico Fellini, Alberto Sordi, Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Anna Magnani, Sofia Loren, Silvana Mangano, Vittorio De Sica, Brigitte Bardot, Monica vitti, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, Gina Lollobrigida, Ugo Tognazzi, Franco Zeffirelli, Pietro Germi, Peter O’ Toole, Audrey Hepburn.
La Rassegna di Cinema di Taormina, oggi “Taormina Film Fest”, evento di punta del vasto programma di appuntamenti di “Taormina Arte”, nel 2014 ha festeggiato i suoi sessant’anni.
Il Teatro e la vista che da lì si gode si sono inseriti a pieno titolo nella memoria collettiva, grazie anche a celebri opere d’arte che lo rappresentano, realizzate da artisti come Otto Geleng o Gustav Klimt.
Ai primi del Novecento, due viaggiatrici americane misero nero su bianco l’emozione che provarono alla vista del Teatro affacciato sul mare: «Questa meravigliosa rovina è ancora essenzialmente greca malgrado i rifacimenti e le incrostazioni di mattoni romani. Soltanto i Greci potevano così amorevolmente e istintivamente scegliere e combinare il meglio della natura per esaltare una propria creazione. Il luogo, la posizione, lo spirito è greco; (…). E’ una squisita rovina ricca di idee umane, progettata in modo da avere il mare azzurro, la costa ed il cono nevoso dell’Etna come sfondo agli archi aperti della scene… è un posto incantevole, dove il passato si rivela nel suo massimo splendore.
La schiacciante bellezza del paesaggio visto dal teatro annulla annichilisce ogni prospettiva, la bellezza irrompe nella veduta trascendendo le stesse regole ferree della fisica e della prospettiva».

A distanza di più di un secolo, inutile dirlo, nelle loro parole continuiamo a ritrovarci.

THE GREEK THEATRE OF TAORMINA: UNA QUINTA SU UN MARE DI BELLEZZA.

 

 

« He who finds himself at the highest point of the splendid Greek theatre of Taormina, could not do any less than confess that may be never the public of a theatre had had before themselves a similar spectacle. The gaze hugs the long mountain back of Etna, the coast until Catania. The enormous volcano smoking closes the cuts off the pictures borders, but without harshness, because the steam of the atmosphere make it seem further away and lovelier that it really is… Observe how this site, in its interesting details,  gives way little by little in the darkness, it was an indescribable beauty…». These are the words of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on 7 May 1787, when, together with his friend and printmaker Kniep, visited the ancient theatre of Taormina.

Built in the 3rd century BC and modified by the Romans, the theatre is more than a symbol, it is the place that has captured the emotions of generations of visitors, spectators, travellers, poets and artists.
More than two hundred years after Goethe, the director Woody Allen, who in the theatre of Taormina filmed scenes of his “Mighty Aphrodite”, in an interview by Silvia Bizio and included in the book “Il Cinema sopra Taormina”, used these words: «It was love at first sight, with the theatre and with Taormina (…). An incredible feeling combined with a sense of inadequacy in front of such beauty, followed by performance anxiety. It was all so suggestive…and I promised myself I would return (…). The theatre of Taormina was in effect the most beautiful I had ever seen. I was keen on filming scenes of a contemporary film in the middle of such an ancient site and this was the right time».
The Greek theatre offered also the unforgettable setting of many films who make up the history of international film : from “The light touch” with Anna Maria Pierangeli, to “Intrigue in Taormina” with Ugo Tognazzi, Walter Chiari, Gino Cervi and Sylvia Koscina, from “Grande grosso e Verdone” by Carlo Verdone to the aforementioned “Mighty Aphrodite” by Woody Allen.
The very same theatre was the place in which many film stars arrived over the years to pick up their golden statues at the prestigious film awards the “David di Donatello”: on its stage among the many to receive honours were, Ingrid Bergman, Laurence Olivier, Federico Fellini, Alberto Sordi, Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Anna Magnani, Sofia Loren, Silvana Mangano, Vittorio De Sica, Brigitte Bardot, Monica vitti, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, Gina Lollobrigida, Ugo Tognazzi, Franco Zeffirelli, Pietro Germi, Peter O’ Toole, Audrey Hepburn.
The film festival today known as the “Taormina Film Fest”, main event of the vast programme of dates of  “Taormina Arte”, in 2014 celebrated sixty years.
The theatre and the view that from there can be enjoyed have been engrained in the public’s memory, thanks also to the famous works of art that have represented it, made famous by the likes of artists like Otto Geleng or Gustav Klimt.
At the start of the twentieth century, two American travellers put pen to paper to describe the emotion they felt on seeing the theatre and its view of the sea: «This marvellous ruin is still essentially Greek except for small alterations and addition of Roman bricks. Only the Greeks could have lovingly and instinctively choose and combine the best of nature to extol their own creation. The place, the position, the spirit is Greek; (…). It is an exquisite ruin rich with human ideas, planned in a way to have the blue sea, the coast and the snowy cone of Etna as a backdrop to the open arches of the scene… it is an enchanting place, where the past reveals itself in its maximum splendour.
The overwhelming beauty of the countryside seen from the theatre quashes and annihilates every prospective, the beauty bursts into the scene transcending the same iron rules of physics and prospective».

More than a century later, it goes without saying, that we continue to find ourselves in their words.

DAS GRIECHISCHE THEATER VON TAORMINA: EINE ZAUBERHAFTE KULISSE.

«Setzt man sich nun dahin, wo ehemals die obersten Zuschauer saßen, so muss man gestehen, dass wohl nie ein Publikum im Theater solche Gegenstände vor sich gehabt. (…) Nun sieht man an dem ganzen langen Gebirgsrücken des Ätna hin, links das Meerufer bis nach Catania, ja Syrakus; dann schließt der ungeheure, dampfende Feuerberg das weite, breite Bild, aber nicht schrecklich, denn die mildernde Atmosphäre zeigt ihn entfernter und sanfter als er ist. (…) Unendlich schön war es zu beobachten, wie diese in allen Punkten bedeutende Gegend nach und nach in Finsternis versank.» Dies sind die Worte von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe am 7. Mai 1787 als er gemeinsam mit seinem Freund, dem Zeichner Kniep das Antike Theater von Taormina besuchte.

Im 3. Jhd. v.Chr. von den Römern errichtet und später umgebaut, besitzt dieses Theater Symbolkraft; dieser Ort hat die Emotionen ganzer Generationen von Besuchern, Zuschauern, Reisenden, Dichtern und Künstlern in sich aufgenommen.

Mehr als zweihundert Jahre nach Goethe, fand der Regisseur Woody Allen, der im Theater von Taormina verschiedene Szenen von “Geliebte Aphrodite” gedreht hat, in einem Interview mit Silvia Bizio, das im Buch “Il Cinema sopra Taormina” veröffentlicht wurde, folgende Worte: «Es war Liebe auf den ersten Blick, sowohl beim Antiken Theater als auch bei Taormina (…). Ein unbeschreibliches Gefühl in Verbindung mit dem Empfinden einer gewissen Unzulänglichkeit angesichts einer derartigen Schönheit, gefolgt von Lampenfieber. Alles war so bezaubernd … und ich schwor mir zurückzukehren (…). Das Theater von Taormina ist tatsächlich das schönste, das ich je gesehen habe. Ich wollte inmitten antiker Bauwerke einen zeitgenössischen Film zu drehen, und hier bot sich die perfekte Gelegenheit.»

Das Griechische Theater war auch eine unvergessliche Kulisse für viele Filme die heute ein fester Bestandteil der internationalen Kinogeschichte sind: von “L’immagine meravigliosa”  mit Anna Maria Pierangeli, über “Luxusweibchen” mit Ugo Tognazzi, Walter Chiari, Gino Cervi und Sylvia Koschina, bis hin zu “Grande grosso e Verdone” von Carlo Verdone und dem bereits erwähnten “Geliebte Aphrodite” von Woody Allen.

Dieses Theater war auch der Ort an dem viele Leinwandgrößen im Lauf der Jahre ihre goldenen Statuen des Filmfestivals, den renommierten “David di Donatello”, entgegennahmen; ausgezeichnet wurden auf dieser Bühne unter anderem Ingrid Bergman, Laurence Olivier, Federico Fellini, Alberto Sordi, Vittorio Gassman, Marcello Mastroianni, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Anna Magnani, Sofia Loren, Silvana Mangano, Vittorio De Sica, Brigitte Bardot, Monica Vitti, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, Gina Lollobrigida, Ugo Tognazzi, Franco Zeffirelli, Pietro Germi, Peter O’ Toole und Audrey Hepburn.
Das Filmfestival von Taormina, heute bekannt als “Taormina Film Fest”, ist das Aushängeschild des vielfältigen Veranstaltungsprogramms “Taormina Arte”, das im Jahr 2014 sein sechzigjähriges Bestehen feierte.

Das Theater und der traumhafte Ausblick, den man von dort genießen kann, haben sich im kollektiven Gedächtnis verankert; dazu trug auch seine Darstellung auf berühmten Gemälden von Otto Geleng und Gustav Klimt bei.

Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts brachten zwei amerikanische Reisende die Emotionen, die der Anblick des Theaters vor dem Meer bei ihnen hervorrief, schwarz auf weiß zu Papier: «Diese wundervolle Ruine ist trotz all der Veränderungen und Erweiterungen durch römische Ziegel im Wesentlichen immer noch griechisch. Nur die Griechen konnten derart liebevoll und instinktiv Bauwerke inmitten der Natur errichten und deren eigene Schöpfung dabei noch übertreffen. Der Ort, die Lage und der Geist, all das ist griechisch; (…)  Es ist eine bezaubernde Ruine, ein architektonischer Geniestreich, geplant um das azurblaue Meer, die Küste und den schneebedeckten Kegel des Ätna im Hintergrund der offenen Steinbögen zu sehen … es ist ein magischer Ort, an dem sich die Vergangenheit in all ihrer Pracht zeigt.

Die überwältigende Schönheit der Landschaft vom Theater aus betrachtet löst jegliche Perspektive auf, die Schönheit beugt gewissermaßen die eisernen Regeln der Physik.»

Es ist überflüssig zu erwähnen, dass diese Zeilen noch heute, mehr als hundert Jahre später, ebenso zutreffend sind wie damals.

ГРЕЧЕСКИЙ ТЕАТР ТАОРМИНЫ: ПЯТЫЙ В МОРЕ КРАСОТЫ

 

 

 

“Тот, кто находится на самой высокой точке роскошного Греческого Театра Таормины, не сможет не признать, что возможно никогда зрительская аудитория ни одного театра не видела перед собой такого зрелища. Взгляд охватывает всю холмистую гряду Этны, всю пляжную зону до Катании. Огромный дымящийся вулкан закрывает урезанную картину, но без резкости, поскольку пары атмосферы позволяют ему выглядеть глубже и грациознее, чем в реальности… Наблюдать, как эта гора, во всех необычных проявлениях,  постепенно уходит в темноту, было зрелищем неописуемой красоты…».  Это слова Иоганна Вольфганга фон Гёте, сказанные им 7 мая 1787 года, во время визита в Античный Театр в Таормине вместе с другом и гравером Книепом.

Построенный в III веке до н.э. и реконструированный романами, этот Театр даже более чем просто символ,  это место, которое впитало в себя эмоции целых поколений зрителей, артистов, поэтов, художников.

Через 200 с лишним  лет после Гёте, режиссер Вуди Аллен, который в Театре Таормины снимет несколько сцен своей «Богини любви», в интервью с Сильвио Бицио, которое включено в книгу “Il Cinema sopra Taormina” (Кино над Таорминой), скажет такие слова: «Это была любовь с первого взгляда, в Античный Театр и в Таормину (…). Невероятные эмоции в сочетании с чувством нереальности перед лицом такой красоты, сопровождающиеся тревожностью. Все это было настолько очаровательным … и я пообещал себе вернуться туда (…). Театр Таормины на самом деле был самым красивым из того, что я когда-либо видел. Я хотел включить сцены древности в современный фильм, и это была прекрасная возможность “.

Греческий Театр стал местом незабываемых сцен для многих фильмов, которые явились полноправной частью истории международного кинематографа:  «Замечательное представление»  с Анной Марией Пьеранджели, «Интрига в Таормине» с Уго Тогнацци, Вальтером Киари, Джино Черви и Сильвией Кошиной, “Большой, плохой и Вердоне” Карло Вердоне и ранее упомянутый фильм «Богиня любви» Вуди Аллена.

Этот же Театр был местом, куда на протяжении многих лет приезжали звезды кино  получать золотые статуэтки кинофестиваля, престижных «Давид ди Донателло»: на его сцене были награждены, в числе других, Ингрид Бергман, Лоуренс Оливье, Федерико Феллини, Альберто Сорди, Витторио Гассман, Марчелло Мастроянни, Элизабет Тейлор, Ричард Бёртон, Анна Маньяни, Софи Лорен, Сильвана Мангано, Витторио Де Сика, Брижит Бардо, Моника Витти, Кэри Грант,  Рита Хейворт, Марлен Дитрих, Джина Лоллобриджида, Уго Тогнацци,  Франко Дзеффирелли, Пьетро Джерми,  Питер О’Тул, Одри Хепберн.

Кинофестиваль Таормины, который сегодня называется «Taormina Film Fest», это флагманское событие обширной программы мероприятий «Taormina Arte»,  в 2014 году отметил свое шестидесятилетие.

Театр и вид, которым оттуда наслаждаешься, сохранились в человеческой памяти также благодаря известным произведениям искусства, на которых он изображен, выполненным такими художниками, как Отто Геленг или Густав Климт.

В начале двадцатого века два американских путешественника описали черным по белому эмоции, которые пережили, любуясь видом, открывающимся из Театра на море: «Эти великолепные развалины все еще греческие несмотря на переделки и большое количество романских кирпичей. Только греки могли с такой любовью и интуицией выбрать и объединить лучшее в природе, чтобы возвысить собственное творение. Место, позиция, греческий дух; (…). Эти изысканные развалины  богаты человеческими идеями, рассчитанными так, чтобы было видно лазурное море, побережье и заснеженную вершину Этны, как фон с открытым занавесом на сцене… это бесценное место, где прошлое раскрывается в полном расцвете.

Обвораживающая красота пейзажа, который виден из театра, уничтожает всякую перспективу, красота разрушает и даже превосходит все строгие правила физики и перспективы».

На расстоянии более одного века  даже бессмысленно говорить, как эти слова до сих пор продолжают беспокоить нас.
