Taormina can be easily reached by different transport means and from anywhere in the world, in full compatibility with the budget of each traveler.
Sicily and Taormina can be reached by car, by motorway (marked by green road signs), from any major Italian city. From Northern Italy, via the A1 through Naples and Salerno, then from Salerno (Amalfi coast and Capri) along the A3 (freeway) towards Reggio Calabria, exit "Villa S. Giovanni - Sicilia ". Once you reach the port just embark on one of the many ferries that connect the peninsula with Sicily (with the city of Messina) 24 hours a day. After reaching Messina, take the A18 towards Catania, for a journey of about 30 minutes, then take the exit "Taormina". If you come from Catania, just take the A18 direction Messina and then the exit "Taormina". If you arrive from Palermo take the A20 to Messina, then the A18 direction Catania and then the exit Taormina.
Taormina has its modern bus terminal right in the centre of the city. Frequent buses ("Interbus" company) leave from Palermo, Catania (including the airport) and Messina. Taormina railway station is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy for its fascinating Art Nouveau architecture typical of Sicily; there is a wide choice of trains, from Eurostars to the simplest but most efficient Express, normally departing from all the main Italian railway stations. Catania Fontanarossa is the nearest airport, located just 55 km from Taormina. From Catania airport you can reach Taormina in an hour's drive via the A18 motorway in the direction of Messina, Taormina exit. The timetable can be reached directly by bus at www.interbus.it. There are also those who love to reach Taormina by ship; from Northern Europe and Italy you can take a comfortable ship from the port of Genoa and reach Palermo in about 17/18 hours. From Palermo, Taormina is only 2 hours by car taking the A 19. Ferries are also available from Naples to Milazzo and Messina (an hour drive to Taormina) and also hydrofoils and catamarans with daily routes from Malta to Catania and Pozzallo.
